Principal Investigator/ Assistant Professor
Zachary Reese
Zach received his undergraduate degree in psychology from Goucher College in 2016 and his Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Michigan in 2022. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of San Francisco where he directs the Love and Communication Lab and teaches courses including Research Design, Writing in Psychology, Social Psychology, African-American Psychology, and Psychology of Competition & Gaming. Additionally, he serves as an organizer for the Moment to Movement: Anti-Racist Pedagogy Series and a member of the board for the African-American Studies Minor. Zach is a husband, a son, a musician, and an avid gamer - order may vary.

Research Collaborator
Renee Thomas
Renée is a senior double majoring in Cognitive Science, and UX design, and minoring in computer science. She is interested in Sibling relationships and comparison. She is in Konnect, a school dance team, Michigan in Color, a student-led newspaper for people of color, as a graphic artist, and Alpha Theta Delta, a professional fraternity for design. In her free time, she enjoys drawing comics digitally, dancing, and spending time with her dog.

Natalie Gonzalez
Natalie is a senior majoring in Psychology with a double minor in Child and Youth Studies and Public Service and Community Engagement. She is involved in the Future Clinitian's Association as the Director of External Affairs and as a Teacher's Assistant for various psychology classes. She is also the social media manager for the Love and Communication Lab. Natalie plans on getting her Master’s degree after postgrad and becoming a therapist. In her free time, she enjoys thrifting, creating videos, and crocheting.

Kira Alberti
Kira is a sophomore majoring in psychology and minoring in neuroscience. She plans to obtain her masters, then PHD and pursue a career as a professor of Cognitive Neuroscience. She is fascinated by structures of the brain and how they impact how we interact with one another in our daily lives and relationships. In her free time she enjoys watching movies, watching sports, writing, cooking, spending time with her friends and traveling.

Ethan Wong
Ethan is currently a Junior Majoring in Psychology and Minoring in Philosophy. Working in the Trait Competitiveness Study, Ethan is helping Prof. Reese and Karolyn to better understand the social and individual mechanics of Trait Competitiveness. With the goal of becoming a Therapist, Ethan's contributions to the lab are helping provide himself and the research team with greater insights regarding Love & Communication and how we can better use that knowledge and apply it in a therapeutic context.

Mya Lopez
Mya is a second year psychology major minoring in child and youth studies and dance. She is interested in every area of psychology and continues to develop this curiosity through the lab and through her classes. She is involved in many extracurricular activates including, Vitality, Varcity, Craft club, and active minds. Post-undergrad Mya hopes to continue her education through medical school where she hopes to earn her doctorate in psychiatry. In (her free time, she enjoys crafting and catching a good movie at the movie theater.

Karolyn Ann Muncada
Karolyn Ann Muncada is a second-year majoring in Psychology, minoring in Philosophy. She is interested in the mechanics of familial, romantic and platonic relationships– specifically what causes these relationships to flourish or fail– and she plans to further explore these avenues in a research setting and/or in a career in counseling. In her free time, she enjoys word searches, spending time with friends and spoiling her dog.

Stacy Cardenas
Stacy is a third-year Psychology major at USF with a double minor in Philosophy and Theater. She hopes to attain either her PsyD or PhD in Clinical Psychology. Stacy aspires to teach and to be a clinician. In her free time, she enjoys weightlifting, spending time with her friends, cooking, and going on walks around the city. Stacy is also the social media manager for the Love and Communication Lab and the operations chair for the Psychology Student Association.

Francelle Deray
Francelle is majoring in Psychology with a minor in Fine Arts. She is currently the Vice President of Active Minds, a student-led organization dedicated to mental health advocacy. After earning her bachelor’s degree, she plans to pursue a career in the mental health field. Outside of her academics, Francelle enjoys traveling, looking for good cafes around the city, playing video games, making art (drawing, painting, & ceramics), and scrapbooking.

Serena D'souza
Serena is a sophomore majoring in Psychology, with a dual minor in Criminal Justice Studies and Journalism. She is interested in the impact of geographical distances on relationships, as well as family dynamics. She plans to pursue a career in Forensics due to her avid interest in the criminal justice system and her fascination with the psyche of criminal behavior. She also serves as the Administrative Chair for the International Student Association, and the Co-Chair for Inclusivity and Well Being for the Psychology Student Association. In her free time, she enjoys writing horror stories, watching films and working on handmade jewelry.

Angelica Zatarain
Ange is a senior majoring in psychology with a triple minor in Child & Youth Studies, Chicanx Studies, and Gender & Sexualities Studies. Before joining the love and communications lab, Ange was part of a research study about what personality traits affected one’s likelihood to ghost on dating apps. Now, Ange is eager to join in the Daily Diary study to deepen her understanding of how self-disclosure amongst couples manifests in other aspects of their lives. Post-graduation, Ange plans on taking a gap year to work and prepare for grad school. In her free time, Ange likes to bake, work out, and try new cafes!

Cole Williamson
Cole is a sophomore double-majoring in psychology and political science, and minoring in legal studies. He is involved in programs such as the Undergraduate Law Society, where he collaborates with other students interested in the legal profession. He plans to obtain his JD, then pursue a career in public policy. Cole hopes to utilize future research in psychology to better understand how policy can affect interpersonal communication. In his free time, Cole enjoys reading, graphic designing, and playing the guitar.

Cadence is a second-year psychology major. She is interested in specifically social psychology and how all different kinds of relationships influence people. Cadence plans to continue through school to earn her PhD and continue doing research. In her free time, she enjoys reading, painting, and working out.
